AL Force One legal part 103 FireFly ultralight aircraft
Ultralight Aircraft Magazine - FireFly, Kolb Aircraft Firefly, AL Force One legal part 103 ultralight aircraft from Kolb Aircraft.
One of the most fun flying ultralight aircraft that I have ever flown has to be the Kolb Firefly, which is one of the reasons that I have it rated as the number 1 true part 103 ultralight in my Best Bang for the Buck series on you Tube and on my website UltralightNews.
While at Sun N Fun I ran into Allan Bilodeau, who credited my video and articles for one of the reasons he purchased a Kolb Firefly!
Al didn't buy his kit from Kolb, instead buying it from an estate sale. The kit was a quick build, with the wings and fuselage already built.
When Al came to pick up the kit he found that he had purchased "a Corvette in a barn". He was amazed to find that it came with a brand new in the box Rotax 447 and a BRS Ballistic Recovery system!
"Like a kid in a candy store, Al worked for two months solid to finish the plane off, covering, painting and doing the final assembly."
During that time he had numerous conversations with Kolb Aircraft, and was amazed to find that even though he hadn't purchased the Firefly kit from them, they answered all his questions, returned all his calls, and kept in contact with him through out the whole building process!
Al mentioned that he was intrigued by the new Kolb Firefly kits, because they can be built and flown in either a taildragger or tricycle gear configuration. When he set out to purchase his craft another requirement was that it had to be a true part 103 ultralight. He had owned and flown a Quicksilver MX but was not happy with it's high dihedryl and lack of crosswind control.
